Teddy Bear Day

Hey guys! I hope you had an awesome time at Spring Fling this past weekend. Weren't the Girls From the Hill terrific? I love hearing them perform. I personally thought the visit from the Bristol Beekeepers and their honey taste test was really neat. Thank you to everyone who attended as well as all of our sponsors for all of their help. Together, you all made the Spring Fling terrific!

Believe it or not, it's almost May! And do you know what happens here at the beginning of May? We get a visit from BEARS here at the Museum! But don't you worry. These aren't the big, scary bears that live in the wild. On May 7th from 10:30 am to 2 p.m. we will be welcoming some furry little teddy bears for our annual Teddy Bear Day! We will be trying some delicious tea, as well as bringing our little bear friends to the Teddy Bear Clinic, where your bear will be able to get a full check up with a nurse. There will be all kinds of things going on that day, so be sure to sign up so you won't miss out on all of the fun!

Want to learn a little about teddy bears at home? Than check out our Teddy Bear Day activity page in the Fun For Kids page on the website. It has a lot of really neat stuff about bears to learn about and some activities to try!

Help your child love to read!

Need some down time during school vacation (or any) week? Read to your kids! One of my favorite mornings starts with my daughter crawling into bed with me, asking me to read a book! I've been reading to my kids ever since I can remember - when I packed my "hospital bag" oh so many years ago I couldn't decide which book I wanted to read to my newborn first - so I packed three! Two of my all time favorites are The Aminal and I Don't Care. Try books that rhyme for babies and young toddlers. Two of my favorites are My Big Book of Fairy Tales in Rhyme and Find the Real Mother Goose.

Once your children are walking about, let them pick books that look interesting to them. Have a little truckster? Fill up on books about cars and trucks - try Dad's Car Wash substituting your child's name for John's or You Can Name 100 Trucks - look for the yellow van on every page. At one point I actually could name 100 trucks I read so many car books! Princess in waiting residing at your house? Pull out the fairy tales and decide what you actually read-aloud - some are scary so edit your version to provide a little small thrill. Our favorite fairy tale book was one my dad read to me when I was little - maybe my grandfather read it to him when he was little - the copyright is 1921. No matter how old your child is make some time, get comfy and read aloud to them - I hope you'll find the experience fun and relaxing!

Its Time for our Spring Fling!

Its FINALLY time for our official grand re-opening of the Wild Place!!! This Saturday, from 10-3 we will be having all kinds of fun activities during the Spring Fling to help welcome in springtime in our own backyard. We'll have all kinds of visitors, including Mother Nature, the Bristol Beekeepers and Miss Candy who will be here to make terrariums with us that we can take home.

I am particularly excited for the performance of the Girls from the Hill, Stonehill College's female a capella group, featuring our very own intern Katie Boyer! I can't wait to hear what they'll be singing. Right after their performance, the museum will be featuring a Question and Answer with a cast member from FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman! Make sure to be there to see what our special visitor will have to say.

There will be plenty of other things going on too, so be sure to stop by and check it out! All of our activities during the Spring Fling are free with general admission for the Museum.

Celebrate Earth Day!

This Wednesday, April 22nd, is Earth Day, a worldwide event that celebrates our planet and keeping it in good shape for future generations of kids!

People from across the world come together to reduce waste, recycle, plant trees, and promote awareness about the environment and what we can do for it. Here at the Museum we celebrate Earth Day in conjunction with the grand opening of our own little piece of the earth "The Wild Place" with this weekends Spring Fling! Our outdoor learning center the wild place is fantastic for kids to discover, explore, learn, play, run around and get in touch with mother earth!

Here's the trailer for the upcoming "Earth" movie from DisneyNature to help you get in the real Earth Day spirit! The movie takes you through a year in the life of three different families of creatures who live on this great planet and raise their children along side you and me!

Look What We've Been up to at The Children's Museum in Easton!

Hey everyone, its Bridget here again! Danielle, Andrew and I have been awfully busy redesigning parts of the Children’s Museum in Easton’s website, particularly the Fun For Kids page I mentioned a few posts ago. We’ve worked really hard on it for the past few weeks, and we’re very happy with the results.

Not only did we completely update both our Exhibits and FETCH! pages, but we’ve also added new sections to the Fun For Kids page itself. Now you can access downloadable arts and craft activities and FETCH! experiments so you can do some of the Museum’s favorite projects right in your own home. In addition to all of that we’ve added a Featured Events section, which is currently displaying our upcoming Teddy Bear Day on Thursday, May 7, where you can learn about the history of the teddy bear or see some of our other teddy bear themed activities that we thought you might enjoy. Finally we’ve mentioned some other great spots to visit locally under our Seasonal Fun page. Why don’t you go check it out and let us know what you think of it? We’d love to hear your ideas.

Sibling Fun At The Children's Museum in Easton

Lisa Hanson and Heather Kempskie know all about sibling interation. The two women from Bellingham are each mothers of two children and happen to be identical twin sisters themselves. Together they have penned "The Siblings Busy Book." compiling over 200 different activities for siblings of different ages to do together. The two authors will be stopping by at The Children's Museum in Easton on Friday April 24 to demonstrate some of the featured activities in the book. Their visit will be fun for children and parents alike who get to try new and exciting sibling oriented activities.

The Children's Museum in Easton is a fantastic place for siblings to play, learn and explore together, no matter the age difference. While some people think that the museum may only be for very young children, we do have activities for the "big kids" too. The FETCH! Lab is perfect for older siblings to try some fun science activities while the little guy is busy playing in the golf ball raceway. Often older siblings will have fun showing their younger brothers and sisters how to use some of their favorite exhibits.
